Debian Users Worldmap
How many Debian users are there? What countries do they live in? Haven't you ever asked yourself?
Well I am trying to find the answer, inspired by the Debian Developers Map,
collecting a database of exact locations of Debian users. There is also a general Worldmap for non Debian Users.
How to add yourself to these maps?
You can find your coordinates at this page www.heavens-above.com or www.astro.com or www.calle.com.
Your coordinates should look like this
46.95 7.43 "nickname" #country, city, homepage, email, comment whatever
(Note: this is 46.95 N, and 7.43 E, S and W are negative)
See the Debian Developers map
to find more ways on how to get your coordinates. They have
722 developers registered.
There are 3459 registered Debian users.
This map was made using xplanet, see
the homepage for well known coordinates (Extras, Marker files).
You can convert the coordinates at www.fcc.gov.
Also check the Linux user counter.
Check who's using Debian.
The map is 768x384 (70k) and can be zoomed to 2000x1000 (250k), here is one with 4000x2000 (700k).
Europe 1000x1000 (150k) and 2000x2000 (500k). Here is the requested 768x384 map without names, which was generated from an anonymized list of user coordinates.

How can you help?
- Do you want printed maps? Do you know someone who can do that? Maybe some Linux Magazine can make a poster?
- Encourage your friends (at your LUG for example) to send in their coords as well, or if
they don't use Debian yet, help them switch to it. Maybe Ellen Feiss helps with www.debian.org/switch/?
- Use the small button top right, or other advertising material (see link above) to help Debian spread.
- What about some links to photos of where you live with things worth to see?
- Help distribute Debian, is there a vendor of cd's yet in your country?
- Want to zoom in on your home country? Contribute a link to a map with xplanet mapbounds, and chances
are we'll add it here. Free maps can be found at visibleearth.nasa.gov and rapidfire.sci.gsfc.nasa.gov/gallery/.
